Green IO conference, Paris

Talk synopsis

In order for us to know what to measure, we need to know where we’re heading. How many of us are stopping to imagine the new world we’re working so hard to create? If we travel 30 years into the future, what will we see around us to indicate we did it? What does our collective big picture of success look like?

So many questions! In this talk, Hannah will explore how we can answer those questions, and why they are crucial to achieving our goals of a sustainable, and dare we say, bold regenerative digital future.

Talk write-up

It was so much fun delivering my talk “Start at the end” at Green IO Paris!

As I said in the talk, writing this one was a real challenge. I set myself the goal of conveying something that is weighing heavily on my mind

– how the tech industry is rubbing away our humanity in the name of efficiency –

It’s happening one byte, one click at a time. And AI is just speeding that up.

But I didn’t want the talk to just be all doom and gloom about it. I also set out trying to find some hopeful (and fun!) hacks to address it.

I was the very last speaking slot of the whole conference so a lot of people had to leave early and missed it. There were of course, a whole ton of people who couldn’t come to Paris as well.

So, I’ve done a full write-up of the talk on our Green Web Foundation blog ✍

Read it here -> https://www.thegreenwebfoundation.org/news/start-at-the-end/

In the post you’ll find:

1. a pdf copy of the slides to view/download.

2. the full script alongside each slide – as I planned it, not quite as I delivered it, the actual delivery was a one-off, that’s why we do these things live!

3. an inspiring list of novels, non-fiction books, papers, films, newsletters and websites where the audience have found stories of positive futures (I can’t thank everyone enough who took the time to contribute ????).

4. a list of ways that adults might engage in play (again thank you to everyone that contributed to that on LinkedIn).
